Russian strikes on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure: resilience and support amid war

Chas Pravdy - 12 October 2025 22:18

Since August, Russian forces have carried out nearly 300 strikes on critical components of Ukraine’s railway system, «Ukrzaliznytsia».

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba, reported in his Telegram channel that despite ongoing attacks, Ukrainian railway workers continue their vital work—ensuring passenger transit, evacuations, and humanitarian deliveries during the toughest times.

According to Kuleba, even in the most challenging circumstances, infrastructure is being restored within hours after shelling, with train services resuming on the same day.

Additionally, «Ukrzaliznytsia» has introduced temporary routes into the heart of the Carpathian Mountains, where the war’s impact is most severe.

Recently, six new wagons produced by the Kremenchuk Carriage Factory have been launched: five heading to Kharkiv and one to Dnipro, serving high-demand frontline regions.

It is also noteworthy that for the first time since 2022, when the Russians damaged the main water pipeline in Mykolaiv, the city has regained a centralized supply of fresh water—an essential step in supporting local resilience during the ongoing conflict.
