Russian Attacks Leave Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure in Crisis

Chas Pravdy - 12 October 2025 12:22

The tense situation with Ukraine’s energy security continues to deteriorate as Russian forces launch new missile strikes.

In recent days, the country has suffered significant damage to energy facilities and gas transportation infrastructure, leading to widespread power outages and gas supply disruptions.

On the night of October 12, Russian aggressors again targeted critical energy objects in Donetsk, Chernihiv, and Odessa regions, causing large-scale blackouts and creating a very challenging situation for local residents and energy workers.

Besides damaging power grids and thermal power plants, the destruction of gas transportation infrastructure in Odessa adds to the difficulties in gas supply.

Energy specialists, together with emergency responders, are working tirelessly to eliminate the consequences of these attacks and restore electricity.

According to the Ministry of Energy, two energy workers in Chernihiv region lost their lives during recovery operations earlier the same day.

The situation remains tense in Chernihiv, Sumy, and Donetsk regions, where for several weeks Russian forces have been deliberately attacking energy infrastructure, severely impacting the country’s vital services.

President Volodymyr Zelensky warns that these strikes will continue and urges Ukrainians to prepare for a prolonged struggle to maintain electricity and gas supplies amidst ongoing attacks on critical systems and facilities vital for the nation’s stability.
