Power Outage at Zaporizhzhia NPP: Russia Turns Peaceful Facility into a Potential Catastrophe
For the past three weeks, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under serious threat due to complete power failure caused by deliberate actions of Russian occupation forces.
According to Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Russian troops intentionally disconnected the station from Ukraine’s power grid and are trying to forcibly connect it to Russia’s electrical system.
This unprecedented situation in the history of global nuclear energy poses an immediate threat to regional safety.
Sybiha emphasized that these actions violate international safety standards and regulations, as Russian representatives from Rosatom operate without Ukrainian regulatory approval, increasing the risk of a nuclear incident.
Additionally, Russian forces have struck energy infrastructure in the Kyiv region, resulting in injuries among civilians.
Ukraine accuses Russia of attempting to deceive the international community and IAEA, falsely blaming others for the crisis.
The true situation is that Russia has occupied the station, deployed military personnel and explosives there, transforming it into a potential disaster source.
Kyiv calls upon international partners to recognize Russia’s actions as illegal and dangerous, exert pressure to halt missile strikes, allow the restoration of power lines, and return control of Zaporizhzhia NPP to Ukraine, its legal owner.
President Zelensky previously proposed that Russia carry out repairs on the power lines to restore electricity supply to the plant from both sides.
