Russia’s Continued Attacks on Ukraine’s Gas Infrastructure: Impact on Citizens and National Energy Security

Chas Pravdy - 11 October 2025 12:22

This October, Ukraine once again found itself targeted by large-scale Russian attacks on critical gas infrastructure facilities.

On October 5th, missile and drone strikes damaged key objects responsible for providing heating and gas to the Ukrainian population during the heating season.

These assaults caused temporary disruptions in gas supplies, especially in Sumy region, where an unknown chemical substance entered the gas supply system during scheduled repairs by the Ohtyrka Oil and Gas Extraction Department.

As a consequence, some residents in Ohtyrka city and its district may remain without gas until repairs are completed.

Specialists are already working to restore stable gas supply, advising consumers to shut off the valve and call 104 if gas is absent.

Meanwhile, railway connections with Chernihiv and Sumy regions remain operational, which is crucial for logistics and regional support during this challenging period.

Additionally, these massive strikes targeted infrastructure supplying gas in northern and eastern regions.

Russian forces have attacked Ukraine’s gas infrastructure twice this month, causing significant damage and creating further complications for Ukraine’s state-owned gas company, Naftogaz Ukraine.

These events underscore the growing threat to Ukraine’s energy security and emphasize the need for increased protection of critical infrastructure more than ever before.
