Explosions in Belgorod: consequences of missile attack and potential rolling blackouts
On the evening of October 11, the city of Belgorod in Russia was rocked by loud explosions, confirming reports of a missile attack allegedly carried out by Ukrainian forces.
The governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, stated in an official message that air defense systems successfully intercepted several missiles aimed at the city and its surroundings.
According to him, residential areas suffered damage: debris caused a fire in a private house in Tavrovo village, a car body was damaged in Dubovo settlement, and falling debris sparked a fire in the city.
Gladkov warned residents about possible widespread power outages as a consequence of the attack, especially on critical infrastructure such as the «Luch» thermal power plant, which could be targeted, leading to disruptions in electricity supply.
Ukrainian experts and military analysts suggest that this was a targeted strike, given its precision and the use of advanced defensive systems.
The situation remains tense, with local authorities working on recovery efforts and ensuring public safety.
