Amazon Prepares for Massive Job Cuts Amid AI Advancements and Automation
According to Bloomberg, one of the world’s largest online retailers — Amazon — has announced plans to lay off tens of thousands of employees in the coming months.
This move is in response to rapid developments in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and the increasing automation of work processes.
Preliminary reports suggest that up to 30,000 jobs across various divisions — including logistics, payment systems, video games, and cloud services — could be affected.
This would mark the largest wave of layoffs since late 2022 and early 2023, when more than 27,000 employees were dismissed during efforts to reduce costs amid pandemic-driven expansion.
Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, has repeatedly hinted at workforce reductions driven by automation.
In June, he emphasized that AI could handle tasks traditionally performed by humans, which would eventually help optimize expenses and improve overall efficiency.
Internal sources indicate that Amazon is actively automating processes where possible through AI integration and deploying new technologies to streamline operations.
Currently, the company employs approximately 1.55 million people, most of whom work in warehouses, with corporate staff numbering around 350,000.
Amazon is also heavily investing in robotics, including developing and testing new robots capable of tactile sensing for warehouse tasks.
In the near future, the company plans to develop robots that resemble humans more closely, with the goal of increasing automation in manufacturing and further reducing dependence on human labor.
