Artificial Intelligence at the Forefront: Over Half of Internet Content Generated by Algorithms
In recent years, the rapid development of artificial intelligence has transformed the digital landscape significantly.
A new study conducted by the specialized company Graphite, focusing on search engine optimization, reveals that more than half of all available written content on the internet today is created using AI.
According to this research, which analyzed over 65,000 URLs from 2020 to 2025, 52% of online texts are generated by AI algorithms.
The most notable period was after the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, when the volume of AI-generated texts saw a sharp increase, reaching its peak in late 2024 and early 2025, when AI first surpassed human-produced content in quantity.
Currently, this percentage has stabilized at slightly over 50%.
Despite search engines’ increasing ability to identify machine-generated content, only 14% of materials appearing in Google search results are produced by AI.
Meanwhile, language models such as ChatGPT cite human sources in 82% of cases, indicating a preference for human-created content even among sophisticated algorithms.
Experts note that, despite the rapid growth and widespread adoption of AI, complete dominance by automated systems remains a distant prospect.
Most users still favor human-authored texts, considering them more accurate and useful.
Additionally, significant gender disparities exist in AI usage, with men actively using generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity more frequently in both everyday and professional contexts.
These disparities persist across different countries and sectors, with women using generative AI about 20% less than men on average.
