How to Effectively Combat Annoying Spam Calls: New Opportunities for Ukrainians
This summer, the Ukrainian government introduced an important resolution that significantly changes the approach to combating intrusive and potentially fraudulent calls.
According to this document, Ukrainian mobile operators have been granted the authority to automatically block spam numbers, regardless of their ability to penetrate users’ privacy.
Digital Transformation Minister Mykhailo Fedorov explained in his Telegram channel that the new rules came into force on October 2nd, and thousands of spam numbers have already been blocked.
This provides additional protection for Ukrainians, helping them avoid the negative consequences of scam schemes and unwanted commercial offers.Minister Fedorov noted that every Ukrainian now has the opportunity to independently report suspicious numbers to their operator and assist in blocking them.
For instance, Vodafone users can utilize their mobile app or call the numbers 111 or 0 800 400 111 within Ukraine, and +38 050 400 111 while roaming.
Kyivstar subscribers can do this via the app or by calling 466 and 0 800 300 466, or by using the USSD command *105*466# while roaming.
Lifecell provides its customers with options to contact either through the app or by calling the numbers 5433 and 0 800 20 5433 within Ukraine, and +38 063 5433 111 while roaming.Additionally, Ukrainians can report such calls by contacting the government’s hotline at 1545 or submitting an application through the official website of the National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NKRZI).
The government also emphasized its commitment to digitalizing public services, aiming to make more services available online via the ‘Diia’ platform and other electronic systems by 2026, which will reduce human contact and enhance user security in the digital age.
