Shakhtar Responds to Dynamo’s Criticism and Tax Reminders: An In-depth Analysis of Transfer Policies and Club Economics

Chas Pravdy - 05 November 2025 11:54

The ongoing discourse within Ukrainian football circles has once again brought to light the intense rivalry between Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv.

Recent statements by Shakhtar’s CEO, Serhiy Palkin, addressed criticisms from Dynamo’s president, Ihor Surkis, particularly regarding refereeing decisions in their recent derby matches.

Palkin not only defended the integrity of the game but also highlighted the club’s impressive financial operations and transfer strategies.

Since the full-scale invasion began, Shakhtar has generated over 400 million dollars from player sales, demonstrating a transparent and effective transfer policy that fuels club development and economic contributions to Ukraine.

Palkin emphasized that the club invests heavily in acquiring talented players for sizable fees, then successfully sells them for exponentially higher amounts, reinvesting profits into nurturing new talent.

He also pointed out that since the outbreak of war, Shakhtar has paid more than 1.87 billion hryvnias (approximately 47 million dollars) in taxes, underscoring its significant role as a responsible taxpayer and economic pillar.

This prompts questions regarding how other clubs, like Dynamo Kyiv, perform in terms of tax compliance.

On the field, the teams remain fiercely competitive, with recent results indicating a high level of play: Shakhtar secured a 3:1 victory in the 11th round, while Dynamo previously triumphed 2:1 in the Ukrainian Cup.

The ongoing debate about refereeing mistakes and on-field conflicts continues to reflect the passionate and often tumultuous nature of Ukrainian football.
