Shakhtar reclaim victory in Ukraine’s top derby after cup defeat

Chas Pravdy - 02 November 2025 21:36

On Sunday, November 2nd, the eagerly anticipated Ukraine Premier League matchday witnessed the classic national duel between two of the country’s football giants — Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv.

Hosted in Lviv, the game resulted in a decisive 3-1 victory for the Miners, marking their revenge following a previous loss during the cup clash.

The match kicked off with an early goal by Eginaldu, who headed the ball into the net after a corner kick in the third minute.

In the second half, Shakhtar doubled their lead when Nevertom delivered an impeccable long-range shot, piercing the Kyiv goalkeeper’s defenses and hitting the top corner.

Dynamo’s players immediately responded, with Bujalskiy just tapping in a cross from Karavaev on the flank to pull one back.

Despite intense efforts to equalize in the closing stages, Dynamo could not avoid defeat.

In the final minutes, Kabayev tried to intercept a counterattack but accidentally scored an own-goal, sealing the final score of 3-1 in favor of Shakhtar.

The match saw goalkeepers Rysnyk and Neshcheryt making crucial saves, but ultimately the Donetsk team prevailed.

Goals came from Eginaldu at 3 minutes, Nevertom at 54, and an own-goal by Kabayev at 90+4.

Dynamo’s goal scorers were Bujalskiy and Karavaev.

This fixture marked the second national derby in just a week: Dynamo won the Ukrainian Cup match 2-1, but now Shakhtar gained the upper hand again.

The Miners increased their lead in the Ukrainian Premier League standings to four points, simultaneously ending Dynamo’s 42-match unbeaten streak that lasted nearly a year and a half.

This event underscores the fierce competition among Ukraine’s top football clubs and signals a pivotal moment in the ongoing rivalry and championship race.
