Shakhtar breaks Dynamo’s record streak in UPL with key derby victory

Chas Pravdy - 02 November 2025 21:30

On Tuesday in Lviv, one of the most anticipated football clashes in the Ukrainian Premier League took place — a derby between Kyiv’s Dynamo and Donetsk’s Shakhtar.

This match enters Ukrainian football history as Shakhtar managed to end Dynamo’s incredible unbeaten streak in the national championship, which lasted nearly a year and a half.

Before this game, Dynamo had accumulated 42 matches without a defeat in the league, setting a record for the Kyiv club and demonstrating their consistent high level of play.

However, in the 11th round, when the teams met in Lviv, Dynamo suffered a 1-3 defeat, surprising many football fans across Ukraine.

It is also notable that the game was the second national derby within a week — Dynamo had previously won in the Ukrainian Cup (2-1), but now Shakhtar avenged that loss.

As a result, Dynamo’s unbeaten streak in the UPL ended, while Shakhtar increased their lead in the standings to four points.

It is worth recalling that the all-time Ukrainian record for consecutive unbeaten matches belongs to Shakhtar, with 55 games without defeat between 2000 and 2002.

Both teams will face each other again in upcoming fixtures, and this rivalry continues to fuel interest in Ukrainian football overall.
