Incredible Record in the Champions League: Fastest Ejection in Tournament History

Chas Pravdy - 21 October 2025 22:38

Contrary to all expectations and fears, this season’s Champions League has once again surprised fans with new records and unexpected events.

One of the most notable is the setting of a brand new record for the fastest player ejection in the tournament’s history, which occurred extremely early in a match between Cypriot club Pafos and Kazakhstani team Kairat.

The focus was on Portuguese defender Joao Correia, who started the match from the beginning and was sent off just three seconds into the fourth minute of the game for an incautious and dangerous kick to the face of his compatriot Luis Mati.

This incident marked the fastest red card ever issued in Champions League history, surpassing the previous record held by Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Kucher, who was sent off in a 2015 match against Bayern Munich at just 59 seconds into the game.

Despite the dramatic start, the teams finished the match in a draw — 0:0.

Notably, Pafos has already earned two points in three group stage matches, indicating they still have chances to advance further.

Additionally, in the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Pafos defeated Kyiv’s Dynamo with scores of 1:0 and 2:0, which was a significant achievement for the club.

These events underscore how unpredictable and exciting this tournament can be, often producing surprising records and memorable victories that keep fans on the edge of their seats.
