The Ukrainian national ice hockey team is set to participate in an exciting new initiative on the international sports calendar — the European Nations Cup.

According to representatives of the International Ice Hockey Federation, this prestigious tournament aims to become a new platform for the development of Ukrainian hockey and strengthening international connections during seasonal competitions.

The first season of the European Nations Cup is scheduled to take place in November, December, and February, bringing together eleven national teams from across Europe, including Ukraine, Germany, Slovakia, Latvia, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Hungary, Poland, France, Slovenia, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Spain, and Romania.

This event will serve as an excellent opportunity for Ukrainian players to showcase their skills, gain valuable experience on the international stage, and promote hockey within Ukraine.

Recall that in spring of this year, Ukraine’s hockey team suffered a decisive defeat in the last match of the World Championship against Japan with a score of 2:3, which prevented them from advancing to the elite division for the first time since 2007.

Despite the loss, Ukraine’s team demonstrated resilience and became a surprising participant in the tournament, showcasing their ability to compete against stronger opponents.

Additionally, Ukrainian clubs have made the decision to expand their horizons by participating in the Baltic Hockey League, which opens new prospects for the development of local hockey and attracts greater attention to winter sports in Ukraine.

As for future international preparations, it should be noted that Ukraine’s national team was unable to qualify for the 2026 Olympics, but active participation in new tournaments and leagues opens wide opportunities for team development and future growth.
