The world’s football superstar Lionel Messi is set to extend his stay at Major League Soccer club Inter Miami, according to well-known sources and confirmed by social media reports.

Renowned sports journalist Nicola Scira reports that the player has agreed to the terms of a new contract with the club, which is expected to last until the end of 2028.

Messi’s decision comes as a strategic move to participate in major international tournaments, specifically aiming to compete in the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as in the 2028 Copa America scheduled to be held in South America.

Currently, the 38-year-old Argentine’s contract with Inter Miami is valid until the end of this year, but sources suggest that the deal has already been signed and will be extended.

Messi, who joined the club in 2023 after transferring from Paris Saint-Germain, spent the most successful years of his career at Barcelona, earning international fame and numerous awards, including eight Ballon d’Or titles.

Known as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Messi has already scored 24 goals and provided 11 assists this season, leading the MLS scoring chart.

His recent brace in a decisive match helped Inter Miami dominate their opponent and moved the team to the top of the standings.

Reports also indicate that a Saudi club has been considering enticing Messi with a transfer, but his current contract with Inter Miami remains the primary focus of his career plans.
