Train Delays in Ukraine Caused by Shelling in Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad Regions: A Crisis on the Railways

On the night of September 25, Ukrainian rail services experienced significant disruptions as multiple passenger trains faced delays or were temporarily halted due to Russian artillery shelling in the central regions of the country — Mykolaiv and Kirovohrad oblasts.

The incidents led to power outages on certain railway sections and considerable damage to the infrastructure, forcing railway workers to suspend operations for safety reasons.

According to Ukrainian Railways (‘Ukrzaliznytsia’), the situation remains tense — following the shelling, several routes were closed, and trains had to stop in safe zones or delay their schedules.

All passengers and crew of trains №54/254 ‘Odesa — Dnipro’ and №8/7 ‘Odesa — Kharkiv’ are currently in shelters, with preliminary reports indicating no severe injuries.

Moreover, similar disruptions are expected to affect trains №51/52 ‘Zaporizhzhia — Odesa’ and №148/147 ‘Kyiv — Odesa,’ which will also face delays due to damaged infrastructure requiring bypass routes.

Ukrainian Railways has responded swiftly, deploying backup diesel locomotives to all affected sectors and assessing the damages caused by the shelling in order to resume normal operations as soon as possible.
