Ukrzaliznytsia Implements Schedule Adjustments in Response to Nighttime Russian Attack on Ukraine’s Railway Infrastructure

Following a large-scale attack by Russian forces on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure during the night of September 17, the national railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has had to make significant modifications to the schedules of both passenger and freight trains.
Damage to key railway facilities and tracks has compelled the company to suspend or reroute many train services, resulting in notable delays and disruptions affecting millions of passengers across the country.
The company’s management has stated that they are making every effort to minimize delays and organize alternative routes to maintain as much stability as possible in the transportation system despite the extraordinary circumstances.Several trains are operating with adjusted routes.
For instance, train №116/115 from Chernivtsi to Zaporizhzhia now runs only as far as Dnipro station.
Passengers heading to Zaporizhzhia are advised to transfer to train №5 in Dnipro to continue their journey, while those traveling from Zaporizhzhia to Chernivtsi can switch to carriage №6 upon arrival in Zaporizhzhia and then reconnect with train №115 in Dnipro.
Additionally, train №86 from Lviv to Zaporizhzhia is now only running up to Dnipro, and train №127 from Zaporizhzhia to Lviv will depart from Dnipro instead of Zaporizhzhia, with extra carriages provided to ensure passenger transfer between these points.International routes are also affected.
To facilitate connections and prevent delays, train №119 from Dnipro to H mem has been rerouted to bypass Kyiv today.
Passengers are being transported with separate carriages to Fastiv-2 station, where they will await transfer onto international services organized with Polish cooperation.
The railway authorities are actively working with Polish partners to arrange additional bus services to ensure smooth onward travel.Regional train routes have also seen adjustments.
For example, suburban trains from Kherson to Mykolaiv and Lviv now include extra carriages to allow passengers to transfer and avoid prolonged delays.
Many services have been postponed or rerouted due to damaged tracks or infrastructure, and a full list of delayed trains is available on Ukrzaliznytsia’s official website.
The company urges passengers to pay close attention to station announcements and stay updated on schedule changes to avoid missing trains and to navigate these challenging conditions effectively.
