Kremenchuk Under Siege: Bridge Closure After Nighttime Attack Causes Railway Delays for Several Days

A recent missile strike on the city of Kremenchuk by Russian forces has critically damaged a vital bridge crossing the Dnipro River, leading to a complete halt of traffic across this crucial transport link.
Authorities and railway officials announced that due to the extensive damage caused overnight, movement over the bridge remains impossible, significantly disrupting regional transportation and causing delays to passenger and freight trains.
Kremenchuk’s mayor, Vitaliy Maletsky, confirmed that the bridge is currently under the jurisdiction of the state-owned company ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ and that expert assessments are underway to determine the extent of the destruction and the prospects for its future use.
He explained that the bridge has been officially closed to all traffic, and emergency services—medical, rescue, and utility companies—are operating in accordance with established protocols to ensure the city’s essential functions continue smoothly on both sides of the river.
“Due to the closure, trains cannot cross the bridge; all necessary measures are being taken to stabilize the situation and ensure the safety of residents,” he noted in a Facebook post.
Meanwhile, ‘Ukrzaliznytsia’ reported that due to infrastructure damage in the Kondratyevsky district, trains No.
59 (Odessa — Kharkiv) and No.
8 (Kharkiv — Odessa) will have rerouted paths via Poltava-Kyivska, Romodan, Grebinka, Taras Shevchenko Station (Smlia), and Znamianka stations.
Passengers traveling to Kremenchuk will be transported by buses.
The train No.
260 from Chop will operate on an adjusted route to Kryukiv-na-Dnipri station, where transfers to buses are also planned.
The same applies in reverse: buses will meet passengers near Kremenchuk station at 13:30 to transfer them to trains heading to Zakarpattia.
The company warned that in the coming days, while repairing work continues, train delays will likely persist due to detours around the damaged section.
Additionally, they confirmed that some suburban trains, including routes No.
6663 and 6664 between Kremenchuk and Znam’yanka, will be suspended temporarily until restoration efforts are complete.
This situation underlines the severe infrastructural toll exacted by recent military actions and highlights the ongoing efforts to restore normalcy in the region.
