Ukrzaliznytsia launches new train routes to European Union cities: tickets are now on sale

Ukrzaliznytsia has taken a significant step towards expanding its European transportation links by opening ticket sales for new routes from Uzhhorod to some of the most popular EU cities — Bratislava, Vienna, and Budapest.
This announcement was made on Friday, September 5, when tickets became available for trains connecting western Ukraine with Central European destinations.
According to official company statements, the first direct trains from Uzhhorod to EU capitals are scheduled to start running on September 12.
The initial route departs from Uzhhorod at 8:09 AM with train No.
961/618 to Bratislava; the return train, No.
617/964, departs from Bratislava at 11:27 and arrives in Uzhhorod around 10:35 PM.
Additionally, there is a route to Budapest and Vienna: train No.
146 departs from Uzhhorod at 8:09 AM, reaches Budapest at 2:20 PM, and arrives in Vienna at 5:20 PM.
The return flight, train No.
143, leaves Vienna at 10:42 AM, arriving in Budapest at 1:19 PM, and then continuing to Uzhhorod before 10:35 PM.
The new schedule includes convenient connections with domestic trains and overnight routes, facilitating seamless travel transitions from Ukrainian local trains to European high-speed services without need for transfers — these modern connections significantly enhance travel comfort and speed for passengers.
The introduction of these routes offers travelers from Ukraine easier and quicker access to Europe, enabling more comfortable planning of cross-border journeys.
Tickets are already available for purchase via the official Ukrainian railway website, the mobile app booking.uz.gov.ua, and on the websites of Hungarian and Slovak railways, providing passengers with multiple options for booking in advance and ensuring a smooth, transfer-free journey.
