Shakhtar’s transfer of young Brazilian talent falls through as player opts to stay

In Ukrainian football, unpleasant news has emerged — the planned transfer of 17-year-old Brazilian midfielder and promising forward from Gremio, Gabriel Meca, was not realized.
According to portaldogremista.com.br, Shakhtar offered the Brazilian club a transfer fee exceeding 12 million euros, along with an additional 5 million in bonuses.
However, the player himself decided against leaving and expressed a strong desire to stay at Gremio, aiming to play for the senior team and compete for trophies.
Meca’s contract with Gremio runs until the summer of 2027 and includes a buyout option of 50 million euros.
It is also known that Chelsea was interested in signing the young footballer, but that transfer also did not materialize.
Meanwhile, it was recently reported that Shakhtar had signed two Brazilian attacking players to strengthen their offensive line.
The failure of this transfer is yet another missed opportunity for the Ukrainian club to bolster its squad and accelerate the development of young talents.
