Ukraine Achieves Historic Victory at the European Beach Volleyball Championship

In a groundbreaking achievement for Ukrainian sports, the country has for the first time ever ascended to the top podium position at the European Beach Volleyball Championships.

On Sunday, August 3rd, in Düsseldorf, Germany, the Ukrainian women's team, comprising Tetyana Lazarenko and Maryna Hladun, showcased incredible skill and broke new ground in sports accomplishments.

In a tense final battle, Ukrainian athletes defeated the French duo Clement Viera and Alin Shamero in a thrilling match that lasted three sets – 2:1 (23:21, 18:21, 16:14).

This victory marks a historic milestone, becoming Ukraine's first-ever gold medal at continental beach volleyball tournaments.On their path to the final, our athletes demonstrated their high level of play, winning all six matches of the tournament.

They confidently overcame strong opponents from Germany — Linde Bock and Louisa Lippmann, as well as from the Netherlands — Mila Kenink and Raisa Shannon.

In the playoffs, they showcased resilience by overcoming Spanish players Daniela Alvarez Mendoza and Tania Moreno.

This historic achievement not only highlights Ukrainian volleyball's progress but also symbolizes the rising prominence of Ukrainian athletes on the European stage.It’s also notable that Ukraine's women's team previously reached the Round of 16 in 2024, marking their best result to date.

An interesting detail from the award ceremony is that the Ukrainian national anthem was not played; instead, the volleyball players performed it themselves, further emphasizing their patriotic spirit and determination.This victory is a significant contribution to the promotion of beach volleyball in Ukraine, inspiring future generations and opening new avenues for our athletes to excel and achieve greatness in the sports arena.
