On the night of July 31, Kyiv once again fell victim to Russian aggression.
During a massive missile and drone attack by the enemy, one of the residential buildings in the capital, where the well-known Ukrainian footballer and team captain of «Polissya», Serhiy Chobotenko, resides, was damaged.
This tragic event underscores the scale and intensity of current hostilities facing Ukraine.
Photos of the damage, showing widespread destruction and outbreaks of fire, were shared on social media by the footballer’s wife, Karina, eliciting sympathy from millions of Ukrainians.
She passionately wrote: "Our house! I hate this war!" complemented by the hashtag #russiaisaterroriststate, highlighting the aggressive stance of the invading country against Ukraine.
Serhiy Chobotenko, a product of prominent Ukrainian clubs «Metallurg» Zaporizhzhia and «Dynamo» Kyiv, has been serving as captain of «Polissya» since 2023 after transferring from «Kolos».
His career began in Zaporizhzhia and he has become one of Ukraine’s promising defenders.
Amid daily challenges posed by war, Ukrainian athletes continue to demonstrate resilience both on and off the field, with cases like the destruction of their homes reminding us of the high cost of peace and stability.
It is also noteworthy that on the night of July 31, Kyiv was targeted once again in a massive attack that saw the launch of 8 missiles and over 300 drones.
Official reports confirmed at least 11 fatalities, more than 130 injured, and widespread damage to civilian infrastructure across the city.
In this difficult time, Ukrainians united in mourning, and August 1 was declared a Day of Mourning for those killed in the recent wave of missile assaults.
Meanwhile, «Polissya» delivered a stunning victory in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers, defeating Andorran teams and showcasing their strength and determination amid war.
This proves that Ukrainian sports continue moving forward despite adversities, and every Ukrainian should cherish and support our heroes both on and off the pitch.
