Ukraine achieves outstanding medals at the 2025 World Fencing Championships: four awards and new milestones

At this year's prestigious World Fencing Championship held in Tbilisi, the Ukrainian national team made a remarkable breakthrough by winning four medals — two of which are bronze.
The competition, gathering the best athletes worldwide, showcased Ukrainian fencers’ high skill level and unwavering determination.
Notably, foil fencer Mykita Koshman and sabreist Alina Komashchuk secured valuable awards, bringing significant pride to the team.
The 23-year-old Koshman claimed his first-ever international medal during this event, overcoming strong opponents from Estonia, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Italy.
In the semi-finals, he fell to reigning Olympic champion Gergely Shiklosi of Hungary, earning a bronze medal in the process.
Meanwhile, 32-year-old Alina Komashchuk showcased an impressive performance, defeating several top contenders before falling just short of reaching the final, losing to Polish athlete Susanna Cieślar with a score of 12:15.
Her performance marked her third career medal at the World Championships, and her first in individual events.
Overall, the Ukrainian team added three medals to its collection — a gold won on July 23 and two bronze medals — demonstrating consistency and a high level of fencing expertise.
Ukrainian athletes continue to shine on the global stage, exemplified by the victory of Bacakstova over a decorated Russian military officer.
These achievements reaffirm Ukraine’s position in international fencing and highlight the ongoing dedication of Ukrainian athletes to excellence and national pride.
