Ukraine’s Judicial System Faces Political Pressure and Internal Conflicts

Chas Pravdy - 06 November 2025 20:45

The Supreme Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine (VKKSU) is experiencing a new challenge as it faces attempts of political pressure and interference from the Parliamentary Temporary Investigation Commission (TIC), led by Serhiy Vlasenko.

The Chairman of VKKSU and its members have officially stated that these actions threaten the independence of the judiciary, emphasizing that this body is a guarantee of integrity and professionalism in judicial personnel matters. The commission stresses that they operate in accordance with the law and in close cooperation with international partners.

They intend to continue the selection and qualification assessments of judges, which will enable Ukraine to secure significant financial aid under the Ukraine Facility program.

However, VKKSU representatives express concerns over the spread of false information and manipulations aimed at discrediting independent judicial bodies.Special attention is also given to the independence of the Public Integrity Council (PIC), whose activities foster public trust in the judiciary.

Interference and accusations against it by the TIC are viewed as attempts to undermine this trust and seriously threaten the entire judicial system.

VKKSU calls for adherence to legal principles and assures that they will continue their work transparently and without political influence, contributing to reforms and democratic processes.Sudden statements and unjust accusations from the TIC raise concerns within the legal community, as any attempts at control and pressure directly impact judicial independence—an essential component of democracy.

Restoring trust in the judiciary and implementing reforms remains a top national priority, with the ongoing struggle to safeguard judicial independence amid complex political and internal conflicts.
