Potential Impact of Trump-Orban Meeting on Ukraine’s European Integration
The Ukrainian government expresses hope that the upcoming meeting between U.S.
and Hungarian leaders, specifically President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, could significantly alter the situation regarding Hungary’s veto on Ukraine’s European integration process.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka stated during a press briefing that Hungary’s blocking of Ukraine’s movement towards the EU could be lifted during this encounter.
He emphasized the importance of U.S.
support and their stance on removing these obstacles.
At the same time, Kachka highlighted that the ultimate decision depends on diplomatic negotiations between Ukraine and Hungary, with the Trump-Orban meeting potentially providing an additional impetus for reaching a compromise.
The deputy prime minister noted that all parties are actively working on this issue and have even discussed it with representatives from other countries, including Japan.
In this context, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the U.S.
to help exert influence on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who currently blocks Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
It is known that the Orbán-Trump meeting is scheduled for November 7 in Washington, and its outcome will heavily influence not only Ukraine’s prospects but also the broader regional European integration processes.
