Lithuania Promises Support to Ukraine in Gas Crisis and Security Matters
Amid approaching winter and the ongoing energy crisis, Lithuania has reaffirmed its readiness to assist Ukraine in addressing gas supply issues.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda made an official proposal to support Ukraine’s energy needs, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted energy provision during the cold season.
On November 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his Lithuanian counterpart held a phone conversation during which they discussed current energy security concerns.
Zelensky expressed gratitude for Lithuania’s willingness to help and reported that Ukrainian specialists are coordinating details of the cooperation, particularly regarding gas supplies.
The leaders also exchanged views on strengthening regional security, considering potential hybrid threats, migratory waves, and aerial dangers emanating from Belarus.
Zelensky stressed the importance of joint efforts to enhance stability and safety, highlighting Ukraine and Lithuania’s intention to unify their diplomatic stance and develop further strategic measures.
According to reports, Lithuania’s Speaker of the Seimas, Yuozas Oleka, announced the possibility of additional assistance for the restoration of the TPP Trbilska, and is also exploring the use of the Klaipėda LNG terminal to supply gas to Ukraine.
Additionally, Lithuania delivered a diplomatic note to Russia’s acting envoy in protest of the ongoing massive shelling of Ukraine, reaffirming its firm position in support of Ukraine and condemning Russian aggression.
