Understanding the Significance of Special Markings on Driver’s Licenses: What Every Driver Should Know
A driver’s license is more than just an official document confirming permission to operate vehicles; it encodes crucial information about the driver and their driving privileges through specific markings.
In Ukraine, after completing the required education programs and passing examinations at the Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, new drivers receive licenses containing a series of symbols, each with its own meaning.
According to representatives of the Main Service Center of the MVS, the table of these markings is located on the back of the license and is essential for proper understanding.
It displays categories of vehicles and additional restrictions or conditions related to driving different vehicle classes.
For example, in the ‘Category’ field, all possible classes, from A to C1, are listed—the types of vehicles the driver has the right to operate.
The ‘Category valid from’ indicates the date when the category was obtained, while ‘Category valid till’ establishes its expiration date.
Special restrictions listed under the ‘Restrictions’ field contain codes that denote specific conditions.
For instance, code ’78’ indicates that the driver has obtained a license to operate vehicles with automatic transmissions and is restricted to driving only such vehicles.
Other codes, such as ‘64.70’, set speed limits or specify vision correction requirements.
Another key section is the ‘Blood type/donor consent’ field, which is added based on medical certificates and the driver’s consent.
Understanding these markings is vital for drivers, as they directly influence driving rights, obligations, and eligibility for additional documents, including international driver’s permits.
