Historic Vote in France: Far-Right Gains First Support in Parliament

Chas Pravdy - 30 October 2025 16:38

France has witnessed a historic parliamentary vote marking a significant shift in its political landscape and showing potential in weakening traditional political boundaries.

The National Assembly, tense and vulnerable to emerging challenges, approved for the first time in its history a draft resolution proposed by the far-right party ‘National Rally’ led by Marine Le Pen.

The non-binding resolution, which has symbolic significance and no legal force, was supported by 185 out of 369 deputies, while 184 voted against.

The resolution addressed the issue of canceling the 1968 agreement with Algeria, which is causing considerable debate over immigration policies.

Although the resolution is purely declarative, its passage signals growing support for far-right forces in French politics and marks a step forward among some parliamentary factions that previously distanced themselves from such ideas.

This move could herald a new political era for France, especially amid the declining trust in President Emmanuel Macron, whose approval rating has plummeted to a historic low of only 11%.

Political analysts foresee that France might be on the verge of a new phase influencing not only domestic policy but also its international relations and role within Europe.
