Putin’s ‘Friend’ Dispels Myths: 2022 and 2025 — Different Scenarios for Ukraine and NATO

Chas Pravdy - 28 October 2025 02:23

In public statements, a political figure, known as ‘Putin’s friend,’ made a sensational confession expressing confidence that Russia does not plan a large-scale invasion of Ukraine nor intends to attack NATO in the near future.

The leader of the far-left party ‘Union of Sarah Wagenknecht,’ who has long criticized Western support for Kyiv and holds pro-Russian sympathies, assured viewers during a broadcast on ntv that Putin understands the balance of power and is not risking his interests by attacking NATO or Ukraine. She emphasized that NATO currently has a significant advantage in military resources and manpower.

‘In all categories of conventional weapons, as well as in the number of soldiers, the allied alliance is much stronger,’ she noted.

These statements raise many questions, considering her previous comments, made on February 20, 2022, when she assured that Russia had no intention of invading Ukraine.According to social polls, the pro-Russian party ‘Union of Sarah Wagenknecht,’ which opposes military aid to Ukraine, maintains support around 5%, enough to potentially enter the Bundestag.

Still, her political stance continues to generate increased debates and controversy within German society and political circles, especially given her pro-Russian views and skepticism about military actions in Eastern Europe.
