Trump Outraged by Advertisement and Imposes an Additional 10% Tariff on Canada

Former U.S.

President Donald Trump has once again attracted global attention with a surprising move—this time, by increasing tariffs on imported goods from Canada.

He announced that he would raise existing duties by an additional 10%, citing what he describes as a malicious advertising campaign that distorts the truth.

According to Trump, posted on his social platform Truth Social, the reason for this escalation lies in alleged falsifications, specifically involving snippets of a speech by former U.S.

President Ronald Reagan, which he claims criticize tariffs and advocate for free trade principles.

Trump claims that Canada circulated a video containing what he calls ‘faked’ audio and visual clips.

He stated, ‘Because of their serious distortion of facts and hostile actions, I am increasing tariffs on Canada by 10% beyond what they are already paying.’ He believes this provocation aims to pressure the U.S.

into concessions regarding trade disputes, and hopes that the U.S.

Supreme Court will step in to help lessen the impact of tariffs.

Previously, in September, Trump declared a 35% tariff on all imports from Canada, excluding products covered by the 2020 US-Canada-Mexico agreement.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney visited Washington multiple times over the past month to negotiate trade issues, and has made several concessions, including removing some counter-tariffs and dropping digital services taxes targeting American tech giants.

Amid growing tensions, Canada launched an ambitious diplomatic tour in Asia, aiming to strengthen economic ties with China and India, seeking new avenues of cooperation and reducing reliance on the U.S.
