Moldova has taken a significant political step as the country’s president, Maia Sandu, signed a decree officially nominating businessman and experienced politician Alexandru Muntianu for the position of Prime Minister.

This decision follows intensive negotiations and consultations with parliamentary factions regarding the future government structure.

Muntianu, who has over twenty years of experience in economics, possesses international ties and the ability to attract foreign investments.

Since October, he has been actively preparing to assume the role of head of government, which, according to law, involves presidential appointment following parliamentary approval. The process of forming the new cabinet is underway—its composition and policy program are expected soon, allowing for the swift launch of reforms.

Meanwhile, the current Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, who has led Moldova’s government since February 2023, announced his departure, expressing intentions to return to the private sector and continue his professional career outside politics.Recean, who previously served as Minister of Internal Affairs and advisor to President Maia Sandu on defense and national security issues, stated he would leave the political scene after his term ends.

The appointment of Muntianu reflects Moldova’s focus on attracting foreign investment and strengthening economic stability in the upcoming political season.
