White House Expresses Interest in Future Trump-Putin Meeting
The White House has emphasized the potential for future negotiations between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a press briefing on Thursday, spokesperson Caroline Leavitt confirmed that the previously scheduled meeting between the two leaders remains canceled for now, but did not rule out the possibility of resuming such talks in the future.
According to her, the Trump administration aims to ensure that any such meeting would be highly productive and minimize unforeseen negative consequences.
She stated, “It’s possible that one day this meeting could happen again,” adding that the primary goal is to use time effectively to achieve tangible positive outcomes.
The spokeswoman also pointed out that the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s conversation with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was not the sole reason behind the cancellation.
She emphasized that the US administration remains open to dialogue and continues to support channels of diplomatic communication moving forward.
