Ukrainian Parliament Approves 2026 Budget: Major Spending Increases and Development Priorities

Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine have made a crucial decision regarding the country’s 2026 budget, supporting the draft law in the first reading.

A total of 256 deputies voted in favor, indicating broad support for this initiative.

According to the announced figures, the projected revenue of the state budget will amount to 2.4 trillion hryvnias, representing an increase of 446.8 billion hryvnias, or approximately 18.8%, compared to 2025.

Meanwhile, expenditures are planned at 4.8 trillion hryvnias — an increase of 415 billion hryvnias over the previous year.

Significant focus is placed on defense and security measures, with allocations reaching 2.8 trillion hryvnias, which constitutes 27.2% of the country’s GDP, marking a growth of 168.6 billion hryvnias compared to 2025.

Other sectors also see substantial growth, including social protection (467.1 billion hryvnias, +45 billion), healthcare (258 billion hryvnias, +38.2 billion), education (265.4 billion hryvnias, +66.5 billion), science (19.9 billion hryvnias, +5.4 billion), and veteran policies (17.9 billion hryvnias, +6.1 billion).

Additionally, support for the economy is allocated at 41.5 billion hryvnias.

The overall escalation of state expenditures highlights the government’s active focus on social and security priorities for the upcoming year.
