EU Supports 19th Round of Sanctions Against Russia: New Measures Include Phasing Out Russian LNG and Targeting Sanction Evasion

Chas Pravdy - 22 October 2025 23:19

EU member states’ ambassadors reached an agreement on Friday to adopt the 19th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in response to its aggression and violations of international law.

This development was announced by Brussels-based Radio Liberty correspondent Riccardo Yozvyak, who shared the news on his social media.

The proposed new sanctions, introduced by the European Commission last month, involve critical measures including the gradual cessation of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) purchases by the EU, scheduled to be completed by early 2027.

This step aims to significantly impact Russia’s economy and energy sector.

Additionally, the sanctions will target companies based in India and China that assist Russia in circumventing existing restrictions, as well as the so-called shadow fleet engaged in trafficking Russian oil.

The move signals the EU’s continued solidarity in applying pressure on Russia to end its military actions and destabilization efforts in Ukraine and the broader region.
