Macron Affirms: Ukraine’s Territorial Negotiations Should Exclusively Involve Zelensky
French President Emmanuel Macron made a significant statement on October 21, emphasizing that any negotiations concerning Ukraine’s territorial integrity must be conducted solely by Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
Addressing questions about the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding ending the war in Ukraine, Macron underscored that no one else has the right to represent Ukraine in this crucial process.
“No one but Zelensky can decide the fate of Ukraine’s territory,” Macron asserted.
This statement comes amidst discussions about the planned diplomatic talks and highlights the importance of Ukrainian leadership in shaping its future.
Previously, media reports indicated that Trump pressured Zelensky to cede Donbas to Putin in exchange for U.S.
support, while the White House stressed that Trump warned Zelensky of potential Russian military threats.
Ukraine’s allies are also keen to strengthen Kyiv’s position ahead of the talks between Trump and Putin, fearing that a skewed agreement could weaken Ukraine and boost Russia’s influence in the region.
A three-component support package is under consideration to ensure Ukraine’s security and stability during this turbulent period.
