Russia escalates information warfare: Propaganda increases by 54% despite military spending cuts

Chas Pravdy - 20 October 2025 02:19

In the context of escalating international tensions surrounding Ukraine and growing information warfare, Russia continues to actively engage in disinformation and propaganda campaigns.

According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, despite reductions in military expenditures in the 2026 national budget, the funding allocated to propaganda has surged by an impressive 54%.

This shift indicates that the Kremlin is betting not only on military force but also heavily on psychological and information influence to undermine Ukrainian resilience and sow doubts within the international community.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that modern warfare extends beyond the battlefield into the information space, where words and distorted truths serve as weapons.

He highlighted the importance of Ukraine strengthening its informational security to counteract destructive propaganda and maintain national cohesion.

Furthermore, Politico reports that Kremlin’s propaganda is intensifying amid decreasing domestic support for the war in Russia, with narratives emphasizing ‘Russia versus the West’ aimed at boosting morale and diminishing internal fatigue during the ongoing conflict.
