In Bolivia, a historic milestone was reached with the victory of centrist candidate Rodrigo Pas in the runoff presidential elections, just days before he takes office on November 8.

This triumph marks a significant shift in the country’s political landscape, which had been under the influence of the left-wing MAS movement, founded by former President Evo Morales, for nearly two decades.

Amid an economic crisis, one of the deepest in recent history, the majority of citizens focused their attention on the platform of the newly elected leader.

Senator Rodrigo Pas from the Christian Democratic Party secured over 54% of the votes, defeating his opponent Jorge Queiroga, who received 45.5%.

His agenda promises to preserve social programs while promoting private sector development, aiming for a balanced approach between social welfare and economic reform. This election outcome signifies a change in Bolivia’s regional trajectory, diverging from years of anti-American sentiments and policies.

Pas has already announced plans for an economic strategy aimed at attracting foreign investment and improving internal business conditions, including negotiations with the United States for over a billion dollars in economic cooperation.

The new president is also ready to address domestic challenges, such as adjusting subsidies, reducing dependence on natural gas exports, and stabilizing prices. The victory opens a new chapter in Bolivia’s history, hinting at a move towards a more pragmatic and open policy.

Despite internal discontent and economic turbulence, Pas has the opportunity to implement promised reforms, though he faces opposition from trade unions and other forces striving to protect past social achievements.
