Zelensky Announces Ukraine’s Proposals to the US on Gas and Nuclear Energy to Strengthen European Energy Independence
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine has made urgent proposals to the United States regarding gas infrastructure and nuclear development aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s and Europe’s energy independence.
According to the head of state, the US demonstrates readiness to supply significant amounts of gas and oil to the region to replace Russian supplies, which is critical for stabilizing energy security.
Zelensky added that Ukraine possesses the necessary infrastructure and potential to significantly improve Europe’s energy situation.
He also stated that Ukraine has submitted proposals to modernize the gas system and expand nuclear capacity, with negotiations ongoing at technical levels.
The president expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and the entire team working on energy cooperation with partners.
Zelensky noted notable results from negotiations with the US and Slovakia, with a shared vision with other European energy stakeholders.
This step precedes an important meeting between Zelensky and US President Donald Trump at the White House, where strategic issues including Ukraine’s plan to acquire Tomahawk cruise missiles in exchange for UAV systems will be discussed.
The president called for active partnership and efforts, reaffirming his openness to dialogue and cooperation.
