How Ukrainian Pensioners Abroad Undergo Identification to Receive Pensions and Social Payments

Chas Pravdy - 18 October 2025 06:20

In Ukraine, the pension system and social benefits remain some of the most important social guarantees for citizens.

This topic has become especially relevant for Ukrainian pensioners who, due to military actions, winter hardships, or other circumstances, had to leave their homes and are currently residing in different countries around the world.

They continue to receive pensions and other social payments, but must undergo a physical identification procedure.

The procedures for those abroad were clarified by the Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Lugansk region.

According to new regulations, pensioners and benefit recipients who temporarily reside outside Ukraine are required to undertake annual identification procedures before December 31 each year.

It is important to know that if a person stays outside Ukraine for more than 183 days in a calendar year or has relevant status in the country of residence (regardless of the length of stay), they must undergo this procedure.

The methods available for those abroad include remote identification via the Diia application with electronic signature (Diia ID), via videoconference, or by contacting a Ukrainian diplomatic mission abroad to obtain a certificate confirming their live presence.

This approach allows for the most convenient and rapid verification of identity, ensuring the continuation of payments.

It is advisable to prepare in advance by familiarizing oneself with the necessary documents and instructions to avoid misunderstandings and delays in pension payments.
