Zelensky and Trump to meet privately at the White House without press coverage

Chas Pravdy - 17 October 2025 09:33

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and former U.S.

President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a private lunch meeting at the White House, beginning at 20:00 Kyiv time or 13:00 local time in Washington.

According to the schedule prepared by Trump’s administration, the leaders will meet directly before the lunch, which is set for 13:15, and during which no press or official statements are expected.

This will be an informal meeting, maintained in confidentiality, with its conclusion planned for 14:00.

Such negotiations are significant, as they could outline future U.S.

strategy regarding military support for Ukraine, including potential delivery of Tomahawk missiles and other weapons.

Sources note that Zelensky arrived in Washington with high optimism, though he was surprised by Trump’s prior discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the announcement of their upcoming meeting in Budapest.

Following his conversation with Putin, Trump hinted that he would not provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, citing their importance for the U.S.

Instead, he described the dialogue with Putin as very positive, although Putin apparently expressed displeasure at the idea of supplying Ukraine with cruise missiles.
