Zelensky Aims to Boost US-Ukraine Energy Cooperation Through Strategic Partnership Proposal
During significant diplomatic meetings with U.S.
President Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky is actively working to establish a new energy agreement that could significantly strengthen Ukraine’s position in the global energy market.
According to sources within Ukrainian government agencies, Zelensky plans to propose that the United States utilize Ukrainian gas storage facilities for storing American liquefied natural gas (LNG).
This strategy would enable the U.S.
to enhance its influence in Europe and help stabilize regional energy supplies, especially amidst current geopolitical challenges. In meetings with Energy Secretary Chris Wray and leaders of major American energy companies, Zelensky emphasized the necessity of restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure destroyed by Russian attacks, as well as expanding American enterprises’ presence in Ukraine.
Such steps would bolster bilateral cooperation and create additional employment opportunities for Ukrainians. It is noted that on October 17, Zelensky visited the White House for talks with Trump, where he expressed confidence that energy support and strategic collaboration would help end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media report that Zelensky was surprised by news of Trump’s recent phone conversation with the Kremlin and the agreement to meet in Hungary, raising further questions about diplomatic maneuvers between the countries.
