Ukraine continues to enhance its pension system for individuals who have lost their breadwinner due to military service.

This issue remains highly relevant, especially for widows of military pensioners, as social protection policies are continuously adjusted in accordance with legislative changes and economic conditions.

In 2024, pensions for such individuals are subject to mandatory indexation, which was conducted in March with a coefficient of 1.115.

However, if you did not notice any changes in your pension amount, it is recommended to contact your local Pension Fund office for clarification.

An essential regulation is outlined in Article 36 of the Law on Pension Provision for persons discharged from military service.

According to it, the pension for the widow of a military personnel who lost a breadwinner amounts to 70% of the deceased’s earnings if the death occurred during military duty, and 30% in other cases.

Additionally, those over 75 years old may receive a monthly supplement of 456 hryvnias.

Article 37 of the law specifies that the minimum pension for such cases cannot be less than twice the subsistence minimum for persons with disabilities.

As of early 2024, this minimum is 4722 hryvnias, with plans to increase the subsistence minimum to 2595 hryvnias from January 1, 2026, which would raise the minimum widow’s pension to 5190 hryvnias.

These measures significantly contribute to social protection and ensure a fair standard of living for families of military personnel who have sacrificed their lives, reflecting the state’s commitment to supporting its defenders.
