Gennadiy Trukhanov Declares Resolve to Fight Political Repressions

Chas Pravdy - 15 October 2025 13:27

Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, who was recently stripped of Ukrainian citizenship, firmly stated that he intends to challenge this decision in court and will remain in the country.

Despite potential risks, he declared his readiness to stay behind bars if necessary to defend his position.

During a press conference on October 15th, Trukhanov emphasized that he has never held Russian citizenship, denying any accusations related to dual passports or treason.

“I have never had any passports — neither Greek nor Russian.

I’ve never held Russian citizenship,” he asserted.

The mayor also dismissed allegations of his supposed Russian citizenship, calling them fabrications and hastily assembled fakes.

“These are just impostures, quickly put together to deceive everyone, even the president.

It’s a moral blow to a person’s reputation,” Trukhanov said.

He further stated he has no plans to abandon the legal process, trusting his own innocence, and will continue to fight for the well-being of Odessa.

“I will work for the prosperity of my city and am confident of victory,” he concluded.

Trukhanov also warns of potential persecution, suggesting that authorities might escalate their actions — possibly even involving physical harm — with the cynical aim of discrediting his status as a political prisoner and undermining Ukrainians’ right to defend their freedoms against state abuse.
