Macron Threatens Dissolution of Parliament Amid Political Turmoil in France

Chas Pravdy - 14 October 2025 19:31

France is currently experiencing a heightened political crisis that escalated after last year’s parliamentary elections.

President Emmanuel Macron has announced that if the National Assembly votes a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and if the assembly proceeds with his resignation, he will be compelled to dissolve the parliament.

This statement was made by government spokesperson Mon Brejon, emphasizing the president’s intention to maintain control over the situation.

At the same time, Macron rules out appointing a new prime minister if Lecornu is dismissed.

It turns out that radical left-wing party ‘Unbroken France’ and far-right ‘National Rally’ have already submitted two no-confidence motions, which are scheduled for consideration soon, and contain calls for the dissolution of the parliament, carrying significant political implications.

It is important to note that the country is going through a period of instability, caused by the lack of a majority in parliament and ongoing conflicts between different political factions.

Lecornu has been appointed prime minister for the second time within a month, and the support of socialist parties will be decisive for his government, which will decide after reviewing the prime minister’s program.

Despite protests from opposition forces and internal tensions, Macron insists on remaining in office, refusing to step down.

The current political landscape in France remains complex and could influence the country’s future and its integration into European processes.
