Zelensky Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Trump in Washington
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has officially confirmed that he will meet with U.S.
President Donald Trump on October 17th in Washington, D.C.
This significant event was announced by Zelensky during an informal conversation with EU Foreign Affairs High Representative, Kadri Simson, on Monday.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the delegation has been actively preparing for the summit, focusing on critical issues that are of strategic importance for both nations.
The upcoming talks are expected to concentrate on strengthening air defense, military cooperation, and enhancing Ukraine’s defensive capabilities, including the procurement of modern weapon systems.
In previous phone conversations, Zelensky has discussed Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy and civilian infrastructure and the need to bolster air defense systems and energy security.
However, Zelensky stated that these phone calls were insufficient for thorough coverage of all sensitive matters, thus necessitating an in-person meeting.
He also noted that Moscow’s intermediaries have started issuing threats to Washington over the potential delivery of U.S.
Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
The delegation has already traveled to the United States, and the meeting with Trump is scheduled for this Friday.
The primary topics will include military support, long-term strategies to pressure Russia, and cooperation with American energy companies to ensure a stable energy supply after Russian attacks.
Previous reports indicated that the Ukrainian delegation would stay in the United States for several days, engaging in multiple negotiations with U.S.
officials.
Zelensky and Trump last met in September during the UN General Assembly session in New York, and this new meeting aims to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
