Ministry of Energy clarifies heating season timeline: what Ukrainians need to know

Chas Pravdy - 13 October 2025 15:27

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine has issued an official statement regarding changes in the timing and regulations related to the start and duration of the heating season across the country.

Although the government has made amendments to the decree concerning special obligations (PSO) for gas suppliers, these modifications do not affect the actual commencement of heating in Ukrainian homes.

The ministry emphasized that these changes are purely technical and relate to defining the period during which natural gas prices remain fixed for consumers — the so-called ‘heating period’ from November 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.

This timeframe determines the price policy for households and electricity producers but does not mean that heating will start earlier or later than planned.

The Ministry underscores that the heating season begins according to the schedule, and all necessary governmental decisions have been made to ensure its smooth start.

Local government authorities decide when to start and end the season, based on the average daily temperature — if it stays below +8°C for more than three days, heating is initiated.

This approach allows for more flexible organization of the heating period in accordance with regional climatic conditions.
