Gennadiy Trukhanov Under Scrutiny: Potential Loss of Citizenship Over Russian Passports
The mayor of Odesa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, suddenly found himself at the center of a scandal involving accusations of dual citizenship and potential possession of Russian passports.
According to confidential information, a proposal is being prepared for consideration by the presidential commission regarding the revocation of his Ukrainian citizenship due to alleged possession of a Russian passport, issued on December 15, 2015.
Trukhanov strongly denies any accusations, asserting that he never held Russian citizenship since 2014 and that all relevant Ukrainian authorities have already verified this information.
He states that any photos or documents suggesting Russian passports are fake and invalid.
Meanwhile, activists and opponents have published a series of documents purportedly confirming his Russian citizenship, including an application he filled out for obtaining a passport and Russian court decisions.
This scandal is yet another episode in the ongoing political controversy surrounding Trukhanov’s reputation, which is gaining momentum ahead of local elections.
