Ukrainian Parliament approves Zelensky’s decree on deploying military units abroad
On October 9, 2023, Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada passed an important bill numbered 14059, which approves President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decree on dispatching units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to diplomatic and military facilities abroad.
The bill was supported by 282 members of parliament from various factions, indicating broad government backing for international military cooperation initiatives.
According to the document, Ukrainian soldiers will be sent to the United Kingdom and Turkey for training and gaining experience with modern military equipment.
Specifically, 321 personnel from the Ukrainian Navy are planned to be deployed to master complex military technology and systems.
The explanatory note emphasizes that the Turkish delegation will include the corvette «Hetman Ivan Mazepa» of the «Ada» class with a crew of up to 106 soldiers.
Additionally, Ukrainian units will be involved in the management of the first mine-sweeping division and participate in mine defense drills in the UK and Northern Ireland, involving up to 20 military personnel and ships such as «Chernihiv», «Geniches’k», «Cherkasy», «Mariupol», and «Melitopol».
It is noteworthy that Ukraine and Turkey signed a framework agreement in 2020 on the construction of two ADA-class corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy, with the first — «Hetman Ivan Mazepa» — launched in October 2022, while construction of the second — «Hetman Ivan Vygovsky» — is ongoing.
At the same time, Turkey has expressed interest in achieving a fair and lasting peace in Ukraine, fostering diplomatic and military contacts aimed at stabilizing the situation in the region.
