Zelensky shapes new composition of the Supreme Council of Justice: appointments of experts with academic and anti-corruption backgrounds

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has taken a significant step in reforming the country’s judicial system by issuing decrees to appoint new members to the Supreme Council of Justice.

The appointments include two highly qualified specialists: Vitaliy Makhinchuk, a renowned scientist and lawyer, and Maksym Savyuk, an experienced investigator from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

This decision is strategically important for further development and strengthening of Ukraine’s judicial system.

According to official sources, these appointments are expected to contribute significantly to fair and transparent justice, which remains a cornerstone of the country’s democracy.Currently, the Supreme Council of Justice comprises 17 members, with a full composition of 21 members planned, so these appointments partly fill the кадровий vacuum, facilitating more effective functioning of this body.

Vitaliy Makhinchuk previously served as acting director of the Research Institute of Private Law and Entrepreneurship named after Academician F.

Burchak of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, and also held the position of deputy director of the same institute.

Additionally, he participates in working groups responsible for the selection of candidates to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, performing duties on the President’s quota since June 2024.As for Maksym Savyuk, his career in law enforcement began in 2016 when he took the position of senior detective in the First Main Detective Department of NABU.

His specialization is investigating criminal corruption offenses within judicial and prosecutorial systems.

Prior to 2016, he worked as an assistant to a judge at the Ivano-Frankivsk Court of Appeals.

These кадрові кадрові appointments are gaining weight in the context of reforms aimed at increasing citizens’ trust in the judicial system and combating corruption.
