During a plenary debate in the European Parliament, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen characterized the repeated drone intrusions and airspace violations by Russia as part of a broader hybrid war against Europe.
Speaking in Strasbourg on October 8, she emphasized that over the past two weeks, MiG fighter jets have violated Estonia’s airspace, while drones have flown over critical infrastructure targets in Belgium, Poland, Romania, Denmark, and Germany.
These incidents have led to flight suspensions, fighter jet scrambles, and countermeasures by EU member states.
According to von der Leyen, these actions signal new forms of hybrid warfare aimed at destabilizing European security and Western democracies.
