Suspicion of Embezzlement: Mayor of Vyshhorod Momoht Faces Scandal
In Kyiv region, new details have emerged regarding a corruption case involving Vyshhorod mayor Oleksiy Momoht.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the official, along with the director of a contracting organization, is suspected of embezzling significant state funds.
Official reports state that at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Vyshhorod city council purchased two essential pieces of municipal equipment – excavators-loaders, totaling over 7.8 million hryvnias.
However, it was revealed that these machines were bought through a fictitious company that lacked the necessary resources and financial capacity to fulfill the contract.
Additionally, the equipment’s cost was inflated by about 800,000 hryvnias per unit.
Despite signing acceptance acts and transferring funds from the local budget, the machinery arrived only several months later and was registered on municipal balance sheets.
Such actions resulted in damages exceeding 1.6 million hryvnias to the community’s budget, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
